Mystic Defender is a side scrolling platform game where the player controls Joe Yamata, also known as Kujaku. His objective is to save Alexandra from the antagonist Zao, who intends to use her soul to revive his master Zareth within Azuchi castle.
The gameplay involves navigating platform stages and utilizing a magical attack system. Players have access to four distinct magic types, which can be charged for more powerful effects and switched between during play.
This title serves as a follow up to the Sega Master System game SpellCaster, though it has shifted away from incorporating RPG mechanics.
