Life & Death Overview
Life & Death is a medical simulation where the player assumes the role of a hospital physician. The core activity involves examining patients, determining their ailments, and deciding on a course of treatment.
Diagnosis requires interacting with the patient, such as applying pressure to the abdomen to locate pain, and utilizing tools like X-Ray or ultrasound. Based on this assessment, the player must choose between options like prescribing medication, referring the patient, or proceeding to surgery.
When an operation is required, the player becomes the surgeon and must conduct the procedure with precision. This includes following correct steps, maintaining sterile conditions, and exercising caution during incisions. The game is challenging, as errors in treatment or fatal mistakes during surgery result in failure.
Following such a failure, the player is sent to a virtual medical school for feedback on what went wrong. The simulation was developed with input from a practicing hematologist, lending a degree of professional authenticity to its processes.
