Phantom 2040 is set in the year 2040 within the troubled city of Metropia. The player assumes the role of Kit Walker, an 18 year old who has become the 24th Phantom in a lineage of secretive heroes.
The central conflict involves a corporation named Maximum Inc., led by Rebicca Madison, whose biotechnological developments are damaging ecosystems and accelerating animal extinction. Her broader ambition is to gain control over Metropia and beyond, amidst a backdrop of rising crime and terrorism.
