Mortal Kombat 3 Overview
Mortal Kombat 3 is a 2D fighting game where Earthrealm has been conquered by the Outworld emperor Shao Kahn. His victory, achieved through a deceptive tournament and a dimensional bridge, allows his forces to invade and subjugate Earth. A handful of survivors, including Liu Kang, Sonya Blade, and Sub-Zero, form a resistance against Kahn's army, which features both new and returning characters like the cyber-ninjas and the sorcerer Shang Tsung.
The gameplay introduced several new systems, such as a dedicated Run button to increase combat pace and multi-tiered arenas. Players could also input specific codes before a match to unlock enhanced abilities. The roster of finishing moves and stage-specific fatalities was expanded, with opponents culminating in battles against the powerful Motaro and Shao Kahn himself.
This title was the final entry in the series to use motion-captured digitized graphics for its fighters. A network play feature was also made available for the personal computer version, allowing for online matches.
