Mortal Kombat Overview
Mortal Kombat is a side-scrolling fighting game where two combatants face each other in one-on-one matches. The gameplay involves a range of basic attacks and character-specific special moves used to deplete an opponent's vitality.
The narrative context involves a long-corrupted martial arts tournament. An evil sorcerer, Shang Tsung, and his four-armed champion Goro have dominated the competition for centuries, threatening the conquest of Earth. As a decisive final tournament approaches, the thunder god Raiden assembles a group of seven fighters to challenge this reign.
This group includes individuals like Liu Kang, Sonya Blade, Johnny Cage, Kano, Sub-Zero, and Scorpion. A defining and challenging feature is the Fatality, a unique and graphically violent finishing move a victor can perform after winning two rounds. The game originated in arcades and was notable for using digitized actor sprites and explicit depictions of blood during combat.
