Super Star Wars Overview
Super Star Wars adapts the narrative of Episode IV: A New Hope into a video game format. Players engage with key events from the film, including locating Obi-Wan Kenobi, freeing Princess Leia, and the assault on the Death Star.
The primary mode of play involves side-scrolling platforming action. The player character, beginning as Luke Skywalker and later joined by Han Solo and Chewbacca, progresses through linear stages. These stages involve combat against enemies, navigating environmental hazards, and gathering items. These collectibles range from health restoration to weapon enhancements, with the blaster capable of several upgrades. Luke eventually acquires a lightsaber for close-quarters combat, while Han and Chewbacca are equipped with more powerful, though non-upgradable, flame weapons.
Interrupting the standard platforming are vehicle-based sequences. These sections, featuring craft like the land speeder, shift to a third-person perspective for navigating pseudo-three-dimensional environments where the focus is on evasion and ranged combat.
Later releases for the PlayStation platform introduced additional features such as revised control schemes, display settings, save functionality, leaderboards, and trophy support.
