Super Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back Overview
Super Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back adapts the second film in the original trilogy into a platforming action game. The narrative follows key locations from the movie, including Hoth and Dagobah, while also introducing original areas and adversaries not seen in the film.
Players control Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, and Chewbacca, each possessing a unique combat ability. Luke can employ a lightsaber to deflect attacks, Han utilizes grenades and a sliding maneuver, and Chewbacca spins through enemies. The core gameplay involves platforming and combat, with vehicle sequences using Mode-7 graphics for piloting a snowspeeder, the Millennium Falcon, and an X-Wing fighter.
A new system involves Luke learning Force powers by collecting orbs on Dagobah, which consume a separate energy meter. Various power-ups are available throughout the stages, such as health restoratives, weapon enhancements, and items that replenish the Force meter. Progress is saved via passwords issued after completing any of the game's 25 stages.
