Castles II: Siege & Conquest Overview
Castles II: Siege & Conquest is a strategy game where players assume the role of a lord competing against four others for the Crown. Victory is achieved by accumulating 7,000 points and then maintaining that score for several months after petitioning the Pope, a process that triggers military aggression from rivals. This makes the late game challenging, as securing and holding the Pope's declared support requires prior military preparation.
Gameplay involves a mix of military conquest, espionage, sabotage, and diplomacy, while also managing relations with both the populace and the Papacy. The interface and castle construction were refined from the original game, with the building process being more streamlined and allowing for the quick placement of pre-designed castle layouts. CD releases included video cutscenes, and tactical battles are conducted on a separate screen where individual units can be positioned and directed.
