Stinger Overview
Stinger is a scrolling shooter where players control one of two jets, TwinBee or GwinBee, to rescue a kidnapped professor from alien invaders. The setting involves a conflict with aliens from the planet Attackon, who threaten to transform Earth into cotton candy.
Gameplay involves both vertical and horizontal scrolling segments where players confront unusual creatures and bosses. A key mechanic is collecting bells from clouds, which change color and grant different abilities when shot repeatedly. If a jet is destroyed, a ghost is released that can be retrieved to restore the craft's powers.
Cooperative play allows two players to align their jets, with one behind the other, to combine their fire into a ripple laser. The original Japanese release included a third playable craft, WinBee, which was not present in the North American version.
