Gradius III is a space shooter where players pilot the Vic Viper fighter craft. It belongs to a series that contains other titles such as Life Force and Nemesis.
Players face large numbers of enemies and can choose their ship's weapon systems. These are available either as predefined configurations or as a custom selection assembled by the player. The experience can be adjusted across three settings, making it challenging to fair in difficulty.
Both solo play and a two-player alternating mode are supported.
