Strike Commander Overview
Strike Commander is a flight simulator where the player assumes command of a mercenary fighter squadron. The gameplay blends aerial combat with interactive narrative sequences that advance the story.
Its setting is an alternate 2011 defined by geopolitical fragmentation. Following the Soviet Union's collapse and a global jihad, oil scarcity triggers conflict. Alaska becomes an independent, oil-rich territory contested by world powers, while Japan rises and traditional institutions like the United States and the Catholic Church decline. In this unstable climate, private military groups hold significant sway over global events.
The player's group, the Wildcats, operates with black-market F-16 fighters, undertaking contracts for survival. Missions involve dogfighting that is presented in a somewhat simplified manner. Between sorties, interactive cutscenes allow for conversations with squadron members and visits to towns to secure new jobs, shaping the campaign's progression.
