Top Gear 2 Overview
Top Gear 2 is a third-person racing title sharing visual and stylistic similarities with the Lotus series. The game's structure involves progressing through a global tour of 16 countries, with each location hosting a four-race mini-championship. Success in these events is challenging, as players must finish within the top 10 positions against 19 competitors to advance.
Points and prize money are awarded to the top six finishers, with the funds used to purchase vehicle upgrades. These improvements cover engine performance, tire types for different conditions, shock absorbers, and gearboxes. An efficient strategy is to acquire the most expensive parts early, as the upgrade system offers no cost savings for incremental purchases.
Race tracks blend real-world circuit layouts with unusual geographical settings, such as Monza appearing at Ayers Rock. During races, players manage a limited nitro boost supply, which can be supplemented by collectible power-ups found on the track. The environment presents various obstacles including puddles, barriers, and ramps. Winning a full four-race championship provides the password needed to continue the game.
