World Championship Soccer Overview
World Championship Soccer is a sports simulation based on the 1990 FIFA World Cup, featuring twenty four national teams. The perspective is an overhead view with sizable character sprites representing the athletes.
Before a match, participants can adjust their lineup by selecting individual players, a system that allows for tactical adjustments to a squad's capabilities. The available modes extend beyond the main tournament to include one off matches against either computer controlled opposition or another human player.
Its ruleset diverges from standard association football, omitting infractions like offsides and resulting free kicks. This creates an environment where physical contact is a persistent part of the fair play. Control during matches is automatically assigned to the athlete nearest the ball, contributing to a streamlined and accessible approach to the sport.
