Strider is set in a futuristic Russia during the year 2048. The player controls Hiryu, an operative designated as a Super A-Class Strider, who is tasked with stopping Grand Master Meio's plan for universal conquest.
Gameplay involves navigating through five distinct levels, where the character can run, jump, and climb across various surfaces including walls. Combat is centered around a plasma sword weapon known as a Cypher, used against robotic enemies, guards, and significant boss encounters at key points in each stage.
