Sonic The Hedgehog Overview
Sonic the Hedgehog is a side-scrolling platform game where high velocity is a central mechanic, enabling the protagonist to navigate loops and other obstacles rapidly. The antagonist, Dr. Robotnik, seeks power through chaos emeralds, which the player must also collect in special three-dimensional stages.
Gameplay revolves around a spin attack used to defeat robots that imprison Sonic's animal companions. Rings function as a protective resource; being hit while holding them causes the rings to scatter for a brief recovery period, but an unprotected hit results in a lost life. Gathering one hundred rings grants an extra life, and a temporary invincibility power-up is also available.
The structure consists of multiple zones, each containing three levels and culminating in a confrontation with Dr. Robotnik. The objective is to progress through these areas, freeing captured friends and securing the emeralds before the villain can.
