Volfied Overview
Volfied is a DOS game where the player controls a ship that must reclaim territory on a screen by drawing shapes to remove them. This reveals an underlying image in the cleared areas. The core challenge involves navigating the borders of the remaining playfield while avoiding enemy contact, which is fatal. The ship has a temporary protective shield that depletes over time, leaving it vulnerable if not actively cutting new areas.
Progress is measured by clearing at least eighty percent of the screen, with bonus points awarded for exceeding that threshold. The playfield contains barriers that restrict where lines can be drawn, and various power-ups are hidden within blocks. These provide temporary advantages such as increased speed, freezing enemies, preserving the shield, or obtaining weapons to eliminate minor foes or the level's boss.
The setting involves the ship Monotros returning to its home world, Volfied, to repel alien invaders. Each level culminates in a unique boss encounter alongside its minions. The game supports solo or cooperative play across three selectable difficulty levels, but it does not feature a save system or passwords, making progression through its many stages challenging.
