The Simpsons Arcade Game Overview
The Simpsons Arcade Game is a side-scrolling beat-em-up where players control members of the Simpson family. The premise involves the family pursuing Waylon Smithers after he kidnaps Maggie, who has swallowed a diamond he stole for Mr. Burns.
Players select from Homer, Marge, Bart, or Lisa, each with a unique primary weapon like a vacuum cleaner, skateboard, or jump rope. The journey to rescue Maggie and recover the diamond takes the characters through various Springfield locations, including Downtown, Krustyland, a cemetery, and the Channel 6 studio, culminating at the Power Plant.
Opposition comes from Mr. Burns's numerous henchmen and a series of end-level bosses. These bosses, which include a wrestler, a Krusty-shaped balloon, and a figure in a bear suit, become more challenging as they sustain damage. The final confrontation is against both Smithers and Mr. Burns, who pilots a robotic suit.
Throughout the levels, additional weapons such as hammers can be found and used. Between the main stages, players engage in short competitive mini-games against the other characters.
