Wing Commander: Armada is a strategy title set in the established Wing Commander universe. Players assume command of either the Terran or Kilrathi empire, with the objective of conquering a specific sector of space.
The game offers two primary modes. One is a challenging, tactically focused campaign called Armada. The other is a far easier quick play option, which functions similarly to mission creation tools found in other contemporary flight simulators.
Multiplayer functionality is integrated into both game modes. Support includes split-screen, network, serial, and modem connections, making it an early example of a multiplayer 3D space simulation.
