Mortal Kombat 3 Overview
Mortal Kombat 3 is a 2D fighting game where players select a warrior to engage in one-on-one combat. The narrative premise involves the conquest of Earthrealm by the emperor Shao Kahn, who revives his queen to bridge dimensions and launch an invasion. A handful of surviving defenders, including martial artists and military personnel, must confront this threat.
The opposing forces consist of characters such as mercenaries, cybernetically enhanced assassins, and sorcerers. The conflict escalates to direct confrontations with powerful entities like the centaurian Motaro and Shao Kahn himself. This installment was the final one in the traditional series to utilize motion-captured digitized graphics for its fighters.
Gameplay introduced several new mechanics, including a dedicated button for a quick dash to increase battle tempo and multi-tiered arenas. A combo system allowed for chained attacks, and special codes could be entered by players to unlock enhanced abilities. The game features a variety of stage-specific and character-specific finishing moves.
Additional features included more environmental fatalities. The personal computer version of the game offered network play functionality.
