OutRun presents a racing experience where the player drives a Ferrari, accompanied by a passenger, through a selection of environments. The perspective is from a third person view positioned behind the vehicle.
Navigating the course requires managing challenging road conditions, including tight corners and obstacles that can cause the car to spin out, resulting in a time penalty. The route is not linear, as the player encounters a junction at the end of each segment, allowing a choice of path. The objective is to finish a run composed of five stages, selected from a total of fifteen available sections.
