OutRunners is a racing game structured around a global tournament. The objective is to finish first across a series of stages that span various locations.
Vehicle selection is a key initial choice, with eight cars available that possess distinct performance characteristics in speed and handling. The competitive aspect is constant, as races are conducted directly against a single opponent, which can be either computer-controlled or another player in a persistent split-screen format.
Progression through the game is not linear. Upon completing a stage, the player selects from branching paths, which dictates the subsequent course and ultimately influences which final outcome is achieved upon victory.
