Lotus Turbo Challenge 2 Overview
Lotus Turbo Challenge 2 is a racing game viewed from behind the player's vehicle. The experience is structured around completing eight unique circuits, which introduce varied environments and conditions like desert and snow. A key change from its predecessor is the shift to a time-based challenge rather than direct competition with other racers.
Players must reach checkpoints before a timer expires, with each checkpoint extending the available time. Any time remaining upon finishing a course converts into bonus points. The game provides two vehicles, a Lotus Esprit and a Lotus Elan, with the latter offering better handling at the cost of speed. The vehicle for each level is selected automatically.
Multiplayer options include a split-screen mode for two players on a single machine. For the Amiga and Atari ST versions, it is possible to link two machines, supporting up to four participants. The progression system allows all players to advance to the next track if at least one player successfully completes the current one.
As the circuits progress, the challenge intensifies with the introduction of two-way traffic featuring civilian vehicles. Players can collect pick-ups that provide speed and time boosts to aid in navigating these challenging later stages.
