Super Mario Bros. 3 is a side-scrolling platform game designed for one or two players. Its narrative involves Mario and Luigi journeying across the Mushroom World to stop Bowser and his seven Koopaling children, who have stolen magical wands and transformed the local kings into animals, subsequently kidnapping Princess Peach.
The experience is structured around eight distinct worlds, each with a unique environmental theme like deserts, ice, or sky levels, which dictates the hazards and visual design. Players navigate a world map to select stages, find hidden paths, and visit Toad Houses for bonus items.
