Power Punch 2 is a falling block puzzle game where players arrange colored Puyos. The core mechanic involves grouping four or more matching Puyos to clear them from the field. This can trigger chain reactions as remaining pieces fall, potentially creating combos.
Successful combos send special obstructive blocks, called Nuisance Puyos, to an opponent's side. These blocks cannot be cleared directly and must be removed by eliminating adjacent colored Puyos. The game offers a story mode featuring the protagonist Arle against computer-controlled foes.
Additional modes include versus play for two players. Exclusive to the Super Nintendo version are options for four-player competition and an endless single-player mode.
