Mortal Kombat 3 Overview
Mortal Kombat 3 is a 2D fighting game where players select a warrior to engage in one-on-one combat. The narrative follows a scenario where Earth has been conquered by the Outworld emperor Shao Kahn, who used a previous tournament as a cover to resurrect his queen, Sindel, and launch an invasion. A handful of survivors, including Liu Kang and Sonya Blade, must confront Kahn's forces, which consist of characters like the mercenary Kano and the sorcerer Shang Tsung.
The gameplay introduced several new systems, such as a dedicated button for a quick dash to increase battle speed and expanded combo mechanics. Interactive stages now featured multiple levels, and the number of environmental fatalities and character-specific finishing moves was increased. A unique feature allowed players to input codes before a match to unlock enhanced abilities for their fighters.
This installment was the final one in the series to utilize motion-captured digitized graphics for its character models. The PC version offered network play, enabling matches between players online. The conflict escalates as fighters must ultimately battle the sub-boss Motaro before facing Shao Kahn himself, making the progression challenging.
