Alpha Mission is a vertical shooter where the player's ship advances upward on the screen. The setting involves survivors from the Tetrenova galaxy, who have depleted their resources through war, attempting to establish a new home on Earth.
Control is given to the defense vessel Syd, tasked with eliminating both airborne enemies and ground-based targets, the latter requiring bombs. Progression is tied to collecting power-ups, which provide energy used to upgrade the ship into a more formidable form.
