Spy vs Spy - Operation Boobytrap Overview
Spy vs Spy: Operation Boobytrap is a Game Boy title derived from the comic strip series. Players choose to control either the black or white spy, each with identical objectives. The core task involves searching five distinct environments, including tropical and pyramid settings, to locate five hidden items and then reach an exit before time expires. A briefcase must also be found to carry multiple objects at once, with these items distributed randomly across the game's twenty levels.
The primary challenging dynamic stems from direct opposition between the two spies. Interaction is largely hostile, focused on setting traps such as fake chests or environmental hazards like a cloud rigged to strike with lightning. These traps are indiscriminate and can harm either character. A spy's health is depleted by traps, physical altercations, or environmental obstacles, which progressively impairs movement and jump height until the character dies. A defeated spy respawns shortly after but forfeits any items collected.
Notably, this installment omits the split-screen display typically used to track both agents' positions. Success requires managing the time limit while navigating hazards and outmaneuvering the opponent. Traps can be avoided without injury if the player reacts quickly enough.
