Kingdom Crusade Overview
Kingdom Crusade for the Game Boy is a strategy and action hybrid featuring Prince Valiant, a character licensed from the comic and cartoon series. The player commands Arthur's armies against the tyrant Cynan across a tiled overworld map, where each tile's color indicates control by either faction. Victory is achieved by either capturing all enemy castles or eliminating every opposing army unit.
Gameplay alternates between a strategic map view and direct, top-down control of individual characters. On the map, moving units through enemy tiles claims them, though this control is contested and can be reclaimed by the opponent. When rival units occupy the same tile, the game shifts to a real-time combat mode where players must dodge and attack to defeat the AI opponent. Conquering a castle requires clearing it of all defenders, including those in neighboring tiles.
During direct control, characters can attack, jump, and collect items that function as power-ups, such as speed boosts or health restoration. A complete heal is available by returning to a friendly castle at any time. The experience can be customized by adjusting the world size, which affects game length, and by setting the AI difficulty and optional player handicaps. A two-player competitive mode is also supported.
