Super Godzilla Overview
Super Godzilla is a 16-bit title for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System that puts the player in control of the titular monster. The experience alternates between two distinct phases: navigating urban environments to locate and destroy specific targets, and engaging in direct combat with other creatures.
During exploration, a map guides movement while a separate display animates the resulting destruction. Confrontations with foes such as Biollante shift the perspective to a side-scrolling format. Here, Godzilla employs physical strikes and his atomic breath to deplete an opponent's energy.
A system called Fighting Spirit governs these encounters, acting as a form of morale or focus gauge. Successfully landing appropriate attacks maintains this meter, while failed or poorly chosen actions will cause it to fall. A depleted meter leaves Godzilla challenging to manage, as he becomes significantly more open to enemy attacks.
