Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest is a game where the player controls Diddy Kong and Dixie Kong on a mission to rescue the captured Donkey Kong from K. Rool. The adventure involves navigating through levels populated by returning adversaries and allies, as well as new figures like Wrinkly Kong who provides gameplay instruction.
Core progression involves gathering bananas, with each hundred collected granting an extra life. Beyond the primary objective of defeating K. Rool, additional tasks are available. These include finding a concealed Hero Coin in every stage and accumulating a separate currency, K. Rool Kremkoins, which unlock access to a secret area known as the Lost World.
A later Game Boy Advance release expands the content with several new features. This includes a bonus mode containing three distinct minigames and a time attack challenge. The port also introduces an extra boss fight, new collectibles tied to the bonus games and a scrapbook, and a corresponding increase in the total number of Hero Coins to find.
