Donkey Kong Country 3: Dixie Kong's Double Trouble! is a platforming adventure where the protagonists, Donkey Kong and Diddy Kong, have been captured. The rescue mission falls to Dixie Kong and a new companion, Kiddy Kong. Their journey involves navigating various levels, confronting a range of new enemies, and facing significant boss encounters at the end of each world.
Gameplay is expanded through several systems. A group called the Brother Bears, thirteen in number, can provide assistance if paid with Bear Coins collected during levels. The Kong family also appears to offer support. Beyond the standard platforming, the game includes bonus missions that employ a first-person or third-person shooter style, presented as a party game.
An enhanced Game Boy Advance version introduces additional content. This includes a new world named Pacifica, comprising six stages and a boss level featuring a new adversary called Kroctopuss. Another Brother Bear, Bachelor, is added to the roster. Mini-games are expanded, with Swanky's sideshow becoming a virtual reality experience and Funky Kong offering his own set of diversions. The collection goal involving Banana Birds is increased from fifteen to twenty.
