PGA Tour '96 Overview
PGA Tour '96 for the Game Boy is a golf simulation distinct from its console contemporaries. It presents a specific set of five real world courses, including Sawgrass and Scottsdale, and features officially licensed professional golfers.
Gameplay employs a dual perspective system. Strategic planning for each shot, such as club selection and applying spin, occurs on a top down map of the hole. The execution then shifts to a side view of the golfer, where a three click meter determines the power and precision of the swing. The ball's trajectory is tracked on the overhead map, while putting switches to a zoomed in view of both the green and the golfer's stance.
Players can engage in several modes such as Practice, Tournament, and a Skins Challenge. The game supports multiplayer for two participants, either human or computer controlled, with the option for turn based play on a single device. Prior to starting, one of four different club sets can be chosen.
