Ring Rage presents a wrestling experience focused on its core mechanics, omitting the presentation elements common to licensed titles. The roster consists of five selectable fighters, each with a distinct background, such as a former boxer or a masked Japanese competitor. A sixth wrestler serves as the final opponent in the championship tournament but is not available for regular play.
Multiplayer is supported through a link cable, requiring a second cartridge for direct competition. The available modes are limited to this versus option, a single-player match against the computer, and a tournament circuit. The objective of the tournament is to win the title for the Taito Wrestling Federation.
