Wings of Fury Overview
Wings of Fury is an action game for the Game Boy Color set in the Pacific theater of World War II, where the player pilots an F6F Hellcat. The core objective involves attacking a series of island installations, with different weapons required for specific targets; rockets are needed for concrete bunkers, while bombs are used against other structures.
Operations extend to naval combat, requiring torpedoes to sink battleships, and aerial dogfights against enemy fighters. Each mission begins with a takeoff from an aircraft carrier, which also serves as a base for resupplying fuel and ammunition and for repairing damage. The player must defend this carrier from attack, though the specific threat from torpedo planes present in other versions is absent here.
This portable version features adjustments to its content and structure. The total number of missions is reduced to fifteen, organized into ranks that typically contain two missions instead of three. Certain violent elements are altered, with ground strafing targeting vehicles like jeeps and trucks rather than soldiers. New additions include extra aerial maneuvers such as a barrel roll and a post-mission summary that awards bonus points for efficient ammunition use.
