Shanghai Overview
Shanghai for the Game Boy Advance is a digital adaptation of the tile-matching game derived from Mah-Jong. The objective is to clear the board by pairing identical tiles, with the specific condition that a tile must be free on one side to be eligible for removal.
This particular release, handled by Hal Laboratory under license from Activision, differs from other titles in the series by offering only one pre-arranged layout. This standard formation is occasionally known as The Turtle or The Pyramid. Players can customize their experience by choosing between two tile face designs: one with small decorative patterns and another with simpler, more legible letters or numbers.
Additional options include selecting from three background music tracks via a menu. For assistance during play, a hint system is available, which can be useful when the arrangement becomes challenging. The game uses a set of 144 tiles stacked in a grid that rises toward the middle.
