Railroad Empire Overview
Railroad Empire is a railroad management simulation originally released internationally in 1989, preceding a later version from a different publisher. The game is part of a Japanese series that began in the mid-1980s.
Players assume the role of a tycoon tasked with constructing a major cross-continental railway. One scenario requires linking New York to California, while a separate European map presents a challenging route from England to Turkey. Efficient track construction is the primary focus, complicated by a finite supply of rails and natural obstacles like rivers.
Gameplay operates on an accelerated real-time cycle where days and nights pass. Track building is restricted to daylight hours, while adjustments to train schedules and track switches can only be made at night. Train management is simplified, as services are limited to passenger transport. The core logistical task involves preventing collisions on single-track lines, making this aspect of operation fair. An optional system uses cargo trains to deliver construction materials to stations.
