Ghostbusters II Overview
Ghostbusters II adapts key sequences from the film into three distinct action scenarios. The player controls the team through a final confrontation inside the museum, presented in an isometric view, where they must first carefully lower each member on ropes. Dropping too quickly will stun a character, making them unavailable for the subsequent battle against the primary antagonist, Vigo.
Earlier stages involve resource management and environmental navigation. One mission requires collecting slime samples from the sewers, where a team member descends a shaft on a vulnerable cable. This segment involves swinging to ledges to gather weapon enhancements, courage-restoring items, and parts for a necessary tool, all while fending off ghosts that attack directly or attempt to sever the lifeline.
Another scenario shifts perspective to controlling the animated Statue of Liberty as she marches toward the museum. Her torch functions as a weapon against spectral enemies, but her power source, slime, constantly depletes. To sustain the advance, defeated ghosts leave behind slime that must be retrieved by small figures at the statue's base, creating a cycle of combat and resource gathering.
During the museum climax, the player can switch between all four Ghostbusters. The objectives are multi-stage: defeat the henchman Janosz, rescue the infant Oscar before Vigo can possess him, and finally trap Vigo himself using a coordinated crossfire from two proton streams. The need to manage multiple characters and objectives under pressure makes this sequence challenging.
