Cannon Fodder Overview
Cannon Fodder is a top-down action game with strategic elements, where indirect mouse commands direct a squad of soldiers. The player highlights individual soldiers or groups, using the left mouse button to move them and the right button to order them to fire their weapons.
Combat unfolds across 72 missions, each with a defined objective. The terrain plays a significant role, as soldiers cannot fire while in water, making bridge control a common tactical concern. Environmental features like trees can provide cover for both the player's units and opposing forces.
Beyond standard firearms, soldiers can collect grenades or rockets, activated by pressing both mouse buttons simultaneously, to target enemy clusters, structures, or certain vehicles. Some missions include friendly vehicles like tanks, which offer a tactical advantage. Managing a team of up to six soldiers through these varied scenarios presents a challenging blend of direct action and squad oversight.
