Betrayal at Krondor Overview
Betrayal at Krondor is a role-playing game set within the medieval fantasy world of Raymond E. Feist's Riftwar saga. The narrative follows a moredhel renegade named Gorath, who is joined by the nobleman Locklear and a magician, Owyn, on a mission to warn the kingdom of Krondor about an impending invasion.
Gameplay is structured across nine distinct chapters, each with a primary objective. While these goals drive the story forward, the player has considerable freedom to explore the game's world and engage in side activities. The party composition is not static, with characters entering and leaving the group as the plot develops.
The core systems are built around character skills, which improve through repeated use, and a player can choose to focus on specific skills for faster development. Characters are defined as either fighters, who wield swords or crossbows, or magicians, who can fight with staves and cast spells. Four primary attributes govern a character's capabilities: health, strength, speed, and stamina, with the last being consumed during combat or spellcasting.
Exploration occurs in a first-person 3D perspective, while towns are represented by static screens for key locations. Combat is a separate, turn-based affair conducted on a grid, where players direct their characters to attack, defend, or use magic.
