Hired Guns Overview
Hired Guns is a futuristic action role playing game from 2712 where players control a squad of mercenaries on the planet Graveyard. The initial hostage rescue premise is revealed to be a ruse, trapping the team in a proving ground filled with genetically engineered creatures.
Its interface is defined by a screen divided into multiple simultaneous viewpoints, each representing the perspective of a different mercenary. Up to four players can participate, with the display dynamically adjusting to show three or four sections depending on the number of active participants. A solo player manages all four characters by switching between these views.
Control schemes are flexible, supporting mouse, keyboard, or joystick input. The game employs square based movement similar to Dungeon Master, and features a follow mode to simplify moving an entire squad. Players select their operatives from a roster of twelve available mercenaries.
Three distinct modes structure the experience. A Training mode offers five basic maps for learning movement and inventory management. The primary Full Campaign involves over twenty combat areas across the Luyten system, where the team must secure four fusion power core rings before a final confrontation at the Spaceport, presenting a challenging series of objectives. Alternatively, the Short Action mode provides seventeen timed maps where players race to an exit, introducing direct competition in multiplayer sessions as only the first to finish wins.
