The Bard’s Tale II: The Destiny Knight Overview
The Bard's Tale II: The Destiny Knight is a fantasy role-playing game where players navigate a first-person, pseudo-3D world and engage in turn-based combat against random encounters. This sequel expands the scope of its predecessor by introducing six distinct towns and a more extensive overworld, with dungeons that feature a greater number of traps and puzzles.
The narrative follows a new threat after the defeat of Mangar the Dark. The Archmage Lagoth Zanta has shattered the protective Destiny Wand into seven fragments, scattering them across the land. To prevent chaos, a party of heroes must recover the pieces, reforge the wand, and have one of their number become Archmage to confront Lagoth Zanta.
Players manage a party of up to seven active characters, choosing from races including human, elf, dwarf, hobbit, half-elf, half-orc, and gnome. The system allows for the creation of reserve characters stored in city guilds, and even permits certain monsters to join the party or be summoned in battle. Financial management includes the ability to deposit money in banks, while a casino gambling feature was present in some versions but removed from the PC release.
