Super Adventure Island is a platform game set on the tropical island of Waku-Waku. The player controls Master Higgins, a caveman whose girlfriend has been turned to stone by an evil magician.
Gameplay involves navigating a series of timed, linear levels. Progression is challenging due to these time constraints, which discourage delay even when discovering treasures. The primary weapon is a boomerang that can be upgraded, and boss battles occur after completing several stages. A scoring system rewards faster level completion with bonus points.
