The Lost Vikings Overview
The Lost Vikings is a side-scrolling platformer where puzzle solving is central. Its core mechanic involves managing three distinct characters simultaneously, each possessing a fixed and complementary set of abilities. The player must coordinate their use to navigate environmental hazards and obstacles.
The protagonists, three Vikings named Eric, Olaf, and Baleog, find themselves abducted by an alien named Tomator. Their objective is to escape his collection by working through a series of levels populated by various enemies, including robots and alien creatures. Success depends on using the team as a unit, as no single character can perform all necessary actions.
Gameplay requires switching control between the Vikings at will to utilize their specific skills. Eric can jump and charge through barriers, Olaf employs a versatile shield for defense and platforming, and Baleog attacks with a sword and arrows. The player must often combine these talents to progress, with the challenge escalating as levels advance. Character management includes a limited inventory for items and monitoring health, as losing all three Vikings results in restarting the stage. Some dangers cause immediate death, making the overall experience challenging.
