Armaëth: The Lost Kingdom Overview
Armaëth: The Lost Kingdom is a DOS adventure where the player assists a treasure hunter named Killian in locating the lost dwarven realm of Dol Armaëth. This kingdom, once saved by its king from evil, fell to darkness again after his death and faded from memory.
Progression is linear, moving through distinct areas composed of many interconnected screens. Within these spaces, the player explores freely, gathers items, engages in dialogue with moving characters, and solves puzzles to advance. Puzzle solutions often involve applying items to objects or people, though the game also incorporates mazes and occasional challenging action sequences requiring precise movement to avoid enemies.
A notable feature is its dual control scheme. Players can opt for traditional text parser input combined with keyboard movement, or use a mouse-driven point and click interface. The graphical interface employs several icon bars for actions, which include standard commands like look and take alongside more situational ones such as kiss or eat, as well as system functions like saving. These control methods are not mutually exclusive and can be used in combination.
Should Killian die during play, he can be revived, but this resurrection comes at the cost of all items collected up to that point.
