Lemmings Overview
Lemmings is a puzzle game where the player must guide a procession of creatures to safety. These creatures move forward automatically and will perish if they encounter environmental hazards. Success is measured by the percentage of the group that reaches an exit point within each stage.
The player interacts by assigning specific skills to individual creatures from a limited selection. These skills alter movement or the environment, such as creating stairs, digging through obstacles, or changing direction. The challenge lies in applying these skills effectively to create a safe path.
Levels are organized into four distinct categories that represent a progression from easy to challenging. Early stages introduce concepts gradually, while later ones demand intricate sequences of actions. The environment itself is a key component, featuring traps, destructible areas, and other obstacles that must be navigated.
Management of the continuous stream of creatures is a central mechanic. The player must work with timing and precision to prevent the group from moving into danger prematurely or becoming congested. Some levels impose strict limits on available skills, requiring efficient solutions. An option to restart a level is provided if the situation becomes untenable.
