Outlander Overview
Outlander is a Sega Genesis title that blends racing with side-scrolling action sequences. Its post-apocalyptic setting and visual style are directly inspired by the film The Road Warrior.
Players control a car equipped with a front machine-gun, navigating a wasteland while fending off attacks from hostile vehicles like motorcycles and gyro-copters. A separate shotgun can be used against adjacent enemies through a pop-up window interface. Managing resources like fuel and ammunition is a constant concern during these highway segments.
The perspective shifts when the driver stops in towns to resupply. Here, the game adopts a side-scrolling view for hand-to-hand combat against enemies on foot. These settlements also serve as points where new vehicle upgrades, such as missile launchers or nitro boosts, can be acquired.
