Madō Monogatari I is a role-playing game where the player controls Arle, a sorceress in training. Her primary objective is to complete a final examination by navigating the Tower of Satan.
The dungeon exploration occurs from a first-person perspective within a three-dimensional environment. Combat shifts to a side-view and employs a hybrid system; while enemies act continuously, the player has a window to input commands. This creates a challenging dynamic where strategic timing is necessary.
Magic spells are central to gameplay, executed through specific button and directional pad combinations. The game's characters later appeared in the Puyo Puyo series.
