Brutal: Paws of Fury Overview
Brutal: Paws of Fury is a one-on-one fighting game where players select an animal character to compete in a martial arts tournament organized by the Dalai Llama. The competition involves a series of duels across various outdoor locations on an island, culminating in a final match against the Dalai Llama himself.
Gameplay revolves around individual battles where characters can use basic punches and kicks, attempt special attacks, or employ a taunt maneuver to regain a small amount of health. Victory in a duel is achieved by winning a predetermined number of rounds, which can be set before play. Defeat results in a game over, though continues are available, while success allows progression to the next opponent. Upon completing the tournament, a character-specific ending sequence is shown.
The game offers a versus mode for isolated matches, where players can select both the combatants and the stage to fight against either computer AI or another human. Its visual style is notably less severe than many contemporary fighters, opting for a more lighthearted, cute aesthetic with its cast of furry animals.
A progression system exists in the console releases, where special moves are unlocked gradually after each multi-round victory. This particular feature is absent from the computer versions of the game.
