Brutal: Paws of Fury Overview
Brutal: Paws of Fury is a fighting game where players control one of many animal characters competing in a martial arts tournament organized by the Dalai Llama. The competition takes place across various outdoor stages on an island, with players advancing through a series of one-on-one duels to reach the final opponent.
Gameplay involves standard attacks like punches and kicks, alongside special moves and a taunt function that recovers a small amount of health. Matches are decided by winning a predetermined number of rounds, with a loss to a computer opponent resulting in a game over, though continues are available. Victory against all foes leads to a character-specific ending sequence.
A separate mode allows for single matches where players can select both the fighter and the stage, competing against either the computer or another person. The aesthetic is notably cute, contrasting with other contemporary fighting games. A progression system exists in the console releases, where special moves are unlocked after each victory, a feature absent from the computer versions.
