After Burner II Overview
After Burner II serves as the basis for most home computer and console adaptations, even though the original arcade title was simply After Burner. The NES, Amiga, and Commodore 64 each saw two distinct technical interpretations of this version.
The game expands upon its predecessor with additional stages, new enemy types, and a modified soundtrack. A key mechanical addition is manual control over the aircraft's speed, allowing the player to slow down or accelerate. The core flight and combat systems otherwise remain unchanged, with the player having access to a greater supply of missiles.
Documentation for the initial home ports is covered here, while the subsequent NES and Amiga or C64 releases are cataloged separately.
